Starting at the intersection of West Virginia Ave. and Florida Ave. NE (10.75 miles):

  • Go North on West Virginia Ave. to the traffic circle at New York Ave. and cross at the light.
  • Continue around the traffic circle and bear R onto Montana Ave. (see RR overpass).
  • Take the 1st R onto 18th St. NE; follow 18th about 0.75 mi. to Rhode Island Ave. and turn R.
  • Go about 1.25 mile on Rhode Island Ave. to the roundabout at Mt. Rainier Cir.; bear R on Perry St.
  • Follow Perry St. to 38th St.; turn R on 38th and go over a small RR bridge.
  • Immediately turn L onto Cottage Terrace.
  • Go a couple of blocks. When Cottage Terrace bears L, go straight onto Bunker Hill Rd.
  • Look for a raised gravel/dirt path on the L, at a brown wooden sign for Cottage City; follow the path to the R toward the ball field. Beyond the ball field, turn L onto Northeast Branch Trail.
  • In about 0.4 mi., cross a small bridge.
  • Continue to follow the trail parallel to Northeast Branch for about 2.75 mi. Turn L at the shelter, toward the parking lot at Linson Pool/Wells Ice Rink; turn R into parking lot.
  • Exit the parking lot, turn R onto Paint Branch Parkway.
  • Continue for 0.4 mi. and cross Kenilworth Ave. at the 1st traffic light; Paint Branch Parkway becomes Good Luck Rd.
  • Enjoy a nice long climb to the top of the hill and look for the gated South entrance to the Park on the L.
  • Enter the Park through the gate and follow the paved trail, which becomes a road. Continue on the road (note -- do not turn L at the campground entrance); in about 1.5 mi. it will dump you out at "The Turn".

Be sure to check in with the road guard stationed at The Turn so that you do not blow through the intersection and end up in the middle of a race taking the corner. Keep to the R edge of the road at all times when riding on the course. Follow the course to the Holly picnic area on the R.

Metrorail

Bicycles are not allowed on Metro until after 7PM. Metro is as an option for getting home in case of impending darkness or bad weather. College Park - U. of Md. is the closest station to Greenbelt Park. To get there, reverse the bicycling directions. Do not turn into the parking lot at Linson Pool/Wells Ice Rink, but continue on Paint Branch Parkway for another 1/2 mile, then turn L at the 2nd traffic light onto River Rd. and R into the Metro station.
